Conversion

Screenshots that convert, tested rather than guessed

Being found gets people to your page. Screenshots decide whether they tap Get. We brief, test and measure them so the choice comes from data, not taste.

The first three do most of the work

Up to 10 screenshots can be uploaded per localization, but an App Store search result can show up to three of them. So the opening three are not the start of a story: they are a unit that competes with other apps right inside the result.

We design them around that: one clear message per screen, captions that stay readable on a small phone, and the strongest promise first.

How we run it

01

Brief

We write what each screenshot has to say, for which audience and in which order. A designer we work with produces them.

02

Test

On the App Store a product page optimization test can compare up to three treatments of icon, screenshots and previews. On Google Play, store listing experiments do the same for listing assets and text.

03

Read the result honestly

Small apps may not get enough traffic for a clear answer. We say so, and we avoid reading a win into noise.

04

Roll out and repeat

The winner becomes the default, and the next test starts from it.

Different pages for different visitors

The App Store also supports up to 70 additional versions of the product page (custom product pages), each with its own screenshots, previews and promotional text. They are useful when you run Apple Search Ads campaigns for different audiences.

Questions about screenshots and testing

Do you design the screenshots?

We write the brief and run the test. A designer we work with produces the visuals, so you get a finished set.

Can we change screenshots without a new app release?

Since October 2026, once an app has an approved version, a set of screenshots for one language can be submitted for review on its own through the Asset Library, without a new version. Submissions share a limited review queue, so we plan around it.

How much traffic do I need for a test?

It depends on your conversion rate and how big the difference is. More treatments need more traffic. If your traffic is low, we test one change at a time.

How long until I see a difference?

Conversion changes show up faster than ranking changes, often inside two weeks of a test going live.
