App localization for ASO: market by market
A translated listing is not a localized one. We research the searches of each market, write the text for it, and adapt the screenshots where it matters.
Why translation is not enough
The App Store lists 50 languages and locales for app metadata, Croatian included. People search in their own words, so a direct translation of English keywords often misses what they type. The same goes for screenshots: a caption that works in English can be too long, or mean something else, in German.
Google Play adds one more reason to do it yourself. For a language you have not translated, Play offers visitors an automatic translation of your listing. If you add translated text without localized graphics, the graphics come from your default language.
How we work
Choose the markets
From your users, your paid traffic and your growth plans, not from a list of every language.
Research per market
Keywords in the language of the market, next to the apps that rank there.
Write for the market
With a copywriter we work with. Not machine translation, not a word-for-word copy.
Adapt the screenshots
Captions and, where it matters, the content of the screens.
Check the result
Per market, in the store itself, and again after the changes are indexed.
Questions about localization
How many languages should I start with?
Usually the markets where you already have users or paid traffic, plus the one or two you want to grow. We decide it with you from your data.
Do you translate the text yourselves?
We research and brief each market, and write with a copywriter we work with. We do not machine translate.
Does Google Play translate my listing for me?
For languages you have not translated, Play can show visitors an automatic translation. It is a fallback, not a replacement for writing the listing yourself.
Is Croatian supported?
Yes. We communicate in Croatian and English, and localize into any language together with the copywriter we work with.
